RDC Commentary on State Rep. Bob Allen's Arrest
7/13/2007 - Orlando, Florida - Anti-gay Republican Bob Allen, the state House Representative serving parts of Orange and Brevard County, was unceremoniously arrested in a park bathroom after offering $20 for oral sex with a male undercover officer.
Rainbow Democratic Club is hardly surprised.
RDC had already given Rep. Allen our lowest rating, the Wicked Witch. In his freshman term, Rep. Allen was one of only 21 legislators to sign on to Gov. Bush's "friends" brief, supporting the ban on adoption by gays. Florida is the only state to have a blanket ban on adoption based on sexual orientation.
Other area Reps. who went beyond the call of duty to support the ban on adoption by gays includes Rep. David Mealor, former Reps. Jim Kallinger, and new Orange County Commissioner, Fred Brummer.
RDC has opposed Rep. Allen (and his "friends") in every election since.
Ironically (or hilariously), Rep. Allen recently co-sponsored the "Lewdness and Indecent Exposure Bill" to increase the penalty for "offenses involving unnatural and lascivious acts or exposure or exhibition of sexual organs committed within specified distance of certain locations."
While we never cease to be amazed by the hypocrisy of anti-gay Republicans, this latest incident causes us to once again ponder whether our loudest opponents are actually more afraid of themselves. Apparently, Rep. Allen should be.
So is it really all that strange when some of our most vocal critics turn out to have repressed gay urges and then implode with abhorrent and aberrant sexual behavior? Allegedly...
RDC is not surprised.
